Creating a Plan for a “RE-FIRED Life NOW and in Retirement

“Life will not go according to plan if you do not have a PLAN”

Just about all of us plan to retire one day. You may visualize
yourself with plenty of free time on your hands, no commute, and
finally with an opportunity to travel.

But statistics show that golden dream comes true for only a very
few of Americans. Some studies reveal less than 10 percent of us
ever retire. Even more alarming, other studies show a large
percentage die within a year or two after retirement.

Clearly, an enjoyable, healthy retirement is not something that
just “happens.” To get past all the challenges that lie in your
way, you need to plan for your retirement wisely.

I advise people in my seminars NOT to retire, but to RE-FIRE.
Instead of looking at retirement as merely leaving the world of
work, look at retirement as a time when you can finally achieve
the things you’ve always wanted to do.

Use these questions to stimulate your thinking.
If you knew you would not fail and time and money were not issues, what three things would you most like to have, accomplish, or work towards NOW and in Retirement.

What one change in your life would make the biggest positive difference in your life Now and in retirement?

Here is a link that you may find inspiring and useful. It is a story of how a mother of three uses aggressive strategies to advance her career and provide for three kids.

    Aloha Dr. Cynthia!
Great advice! You speak the truth when you share the scary statistics about people passing on w/in just a few years of retiring.
It’s so sad - but it makes perfect sense. We’re created to have a purpose in life, and to give back to others. Keep up the great work Re-Firing and IN-spiring your readers to think about their NEW stage of life and what they’ll do in the golden age of retirement.
Personally - I never plan to retire - I think it’s a myth put on us a long-long time ago once America developed social security.
But there’s no model of that in history. It’s just not the natural course for human beings.
    Great blog!!!
