Baby Boomers: This is a Time to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude

ThanksgivingI like Thanksgiving. I love the family gathering to share a meal and conversation. But I also deeply appreciate the reminder to everyone to be grateful in life. Gratitude helps us appreciate value in other people and in life experiences.

It’s pretty easy to be grateful for some of the obvious good things in our lives. But it might be more important to learn to be intentionally grateful for the challenges we face and the times that cause us to learn more about ourselves and others.

Sometimes we slip into indifference about the good things in our lives. Sometimes we begin to take others for granted. Stopping to be grateful reminds us of how important those people and accomplishments and gifts are in giving our lives meaning and purpose and joy.

My challenge to you this year is to learn to be intentionally grateful for something for which you have never given thanks before. You might find that this is a great exercise for everyone gathered around your Thanksgiving table. Gratitude opens our eyes to so much in life that is good. It opens our eyes to so many people and events that have made us the persons we are.

Think of this Thanksgiving as a time for deep gratitude and experience the joy of opening your eyes to the beauty in your life.
